Losing weight, controlling your weight, and avoiding weight gain get harder as you get older – yet they are an important thing to do in order to prevent weight-related health problems.  If you are 20 pounds over your ideal weight, you are at a greater risk for diseases including:  diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, sleep apnea, and cancers.  If you are overweight and not exercising as much as you should be, you may also be at risk for heart disease and high cholesterol.

Amazingly enough it only takes a little weight loss for you to have big health benefits.  Losing just ten percent of your body weight can lower your blood pressure, cholesterol, triglyceride, and blood sugar levels.  While there are many ways to lose weight, one to give consideration to is hypnosis.
There are many misunderstandings when it comes to weight loss and hypnosis.  So before you break out your pendulums, take some time to read some of these thoughts.

First, keep in mind that hypnosis can be risky if it is not done properly.  You should only use someone who has been properly trained in the real concepts of hypnosis.  Even though it may appear safe, you still want someone who is skilled enough in the art of hypnosis that they know all the factors that should be considered and what type of procedure will work best for you.

Next, keep in mind that hypnosis is not going to magically make your fat disappear and cause a skinny person to appear over night.  Most experts agree that hypnosis should be used as part of a complete weight loss program and not by itself.  It is also going to take more than one session to achieve the desired results – think of how long you have been living a lifestyle that caused you to put on the weight!  Hypnosis is most effective to help you lose weight when coupled with psychotherapy, because hypnosis itself is just a deep state of relaxation where you can still control your own body.

Also, hypnosis is a way to get into the subconscious of a person, where the body is more responsive to suggested ideas because of the intense state of concentration.  This does not mean that you will be able to reprogram the mind of an individual.  Hypnosis comes on different levels as well a deep relaxation state to a properly initiated state brought on by a professional.  There are no magic or paranormal sources involved.

Keep in mind that hypnosis by itself is not going to help you lose the weight – it should just be used as a tool to assist the program that you are already using.  When your mind is relaxed, your body will follow, making it easier for you to lose the weight.  As with any weight loss technique, speak with your doctor before starting a program.
