Self Care with Suds
Posted on March 16, 2007 in Life by byronb
A nice bath is just the place to take care of your “self”. You can wash the dust of the day off along with the stress of the day, unwind and relax.
Some people find that they enjoy homemade bubble bath creations out of special favorite oils and / or soaps better than store bought soap solutions. This way not only the body is soothed and uplifted, but the nerves and mind with soothing scents and oils.
To first take a look at oils, note that you must never ingest any oils orally, and you must avoid marjoram if you are pregnant. Other than that, check with the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy for more details and to also see which other oils should be avoided during pregnancy.
Oils
Some oils are known for their soothing and relaxation qualities; like rosewood, lavender, myrrh, sandalwood and chamomile. These are also known for their scents, too, and chosen as such. They can help your nervous system plus offer health benefits in other areas as well like with reducing stress and helping with conditions related to stress like indigestion and acid reflux reactions. During this type of bath time, it often helps when bathers bring along relaxing music to play and / or relaxing material to read along while bathing.
Some oils that are known to help you feel uplifted, rejuvenated and having improved mental health or alertness and well being are spearmint, eucalyptus (also known to help combat colds, congestion and flu symptoms), lemon oil and peppermint. Mix and match to revitalize yourself and give your “self” a treat.
And still other oils are selected for physical body soothing results like the skin, the largest organ in the body. Coconut oil and almond oil are popular choices for this. Coconut oil boasts a floral and nutty fragrance, transporting you to an exotic garden experience. And while almond oil lacks a heavy scent, it combines easily with other oils for a multiple treatment experience.
Soaps
Along with special oils are special soaps made with homemade ingredients. Popular choices for the bath are castile soap, distilled water and liquid glycerin combined.
